The Natural Resources Institute Postgraduate Society (NRIPS) was formally created in February 2015 to facilitate the academic, social and intellectual interests of the postgraduate students at NRI. Since inception, a number of events have been organised and facilitated. These events include seasonal social gatherings in the postgraduate tower of Blake, monthly lunch hour presentations on topics of interest - such as publishing academic papers, career options after the PhD, qualitative research methods, etc. – and short presentations by students in preparation for field research or conference talks. We also strive to recognise milestones of students, such as viva defence, birthdays, marriages and leaving parties. These activities have increased the intellectual and social community of postgraduate life at NRI and we look forward to enhancing these functions further in the future.
NRIPS is governed by a committee structure, currently chaired by Sona Vyskocilova, that is elected on an annual basis by the postgraduate student body of NRI. While the society has not yet been recognised formally by the university, support from NRI has been shown and an excellent relationship exists.
