The Natural Resources Institute (NRI) (www.nri.org) is an internationally renowned multi-disciplinary centre of the University of Greenwich that undertakes research, consultancy, teaching and training to support food and nutrition security, sustainable development, economic growth and poverty reduction mainly in developing countries.

We are looking for an exceptional candidate to join the Senior Management Team of the Institute as the Head of our Food and Markets Department.  A Professorial title may be available for candidates who meet the University’s criteria for a Professorship.

The Food and Markets Department (FMD) of NRI is a dynamic group of just under thirty academic researchers undertaking research and enterprise work across a range of areas including food systems, food innovation, food-based strategies for nutrition, food safety, public health nutrition, sustainable agri-food systems, post-harvest technology and post-harvest losses and value addition.  The department also delivers a number of MSc programmes in Food Safety and Quality Management and in Food Innovation and there are ambitions to increase the teaching offering in the near future.

These are exciting times for FMD, the team has grown considerably in the past year, and we now seek a new departmental head to lead the group in achieving its full potential.  It is expected that the post holder will have an international profile in one of the above work areas or a closely related area to those of the Department.  This appointment will be made on either the “research” or “enterprise” career pathway and the job description has been written to cover both.  Enterprise would include consultancy and technical assistance contracts with international development donors.  It is expected that the job-holder will maintain their own portfolio of externally-funded research and enterprise activities contributing to the programmes of the Institute.

Interested candidates are encouraged to discuss the post with Professor Andrew Westby, Director of the Natural Resources Institute (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

 Interview dates to be advised.

We aim to be an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
