Professor George Rothschild, Emeritus Professor of International Agriculture at NRI, was recently named Development Agriculturist of the Year in the 2015 Honours of the Tropical Agriculture Association (TAA).

The TAA is an association of over 600 members, including research workers, teachers and advisers, development specialists, students and commercial interests or businesses, and others concerned with the science and practice of agriculture and its impact on sustainable development and the alleviation of poverty. The mission of the Association is to contribute towards 'Advancing education, research and practice in agriculture for rural livelihoods and sustainable development.'

In pursuit of this mission, TAA Agriculture-for-Development Honours are awarded annually in recognition of significant contributions to the improvement of rural livelihoods in developing countries through sustainable agricultural development.

Prof Rothschild's award recognises "a lifetime of work in agricultural research for development, as a researcher, Director, Director-General, Board Member, Board Chair and Government Adviser, and for supporting the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Agriculture and Food for Development." The award was presented at the TAA Annual General Meeting on the 11th November at the Royal Over-Seas League, London.

Friends and colleagues at NRI congratulate Prof Rothschild on this important achievement.
